Executive Summary Loss Prevention department decides to lock their merchandise. The Operations department is concerned that this merchandise will not be accessible to the customer. Indyme’s Shopper Help Button System with reporting feature tackles Loss Prevention and Operation’s merchandise concerns. Return on Investment realized after just 3 months. The Problem A large, national chain of beverage warehouses decided to put locks on their cabinets for loss prevention reasons. However, while the locks met the LP requirements for merchandise security, Operations was concerned about shopper abandonment and lack of shopper service. It was discovered that while locked cases protected the merchandise, it was also doing a disservice by deterring shoppers from seeking out an associate to open the case (merchandise abandonment).
The Solution The retailer’s management decided to install ten (10) shopper help buttons throughout the store with output to a store’s overhead speaker. Indyme CB440 and CB442 Help Buttons are placed on the glass of the locked cabinets for easy access to the shopper. The shopper simply presses the help button and a message is sent , - “Customer assistance needed at the wine case.", over the store’s P.A. system. If an associate does not reset the help button during a certain amount of time, the message is replayed.
In addition, the retailer integrated Indyme’s web-based, Enterprise Reporting Service into the Shopper Help Button System. The reporting system will monitor help button activity and analyzes the events at the chain, division, or regional level. Web-based reporting provides immediate overview of shopper activity and employee response performance to management staff. Return on Investment After installing the Indyme Help Button and Enterprise Reporting System chain-wide, the retailer recognized a ROI (Return on investment) in only 3 months. This retailer compared their sales of locked merchandise from stores testing the Indyme Help Button system against stores without the system. They found that the stores with the Help Button system increased its sales revenue from the same locked merchandise areas. In sum, both Loss Prevention and Operations are extremely satisfied with how Indyme’s Shopper Help Button system met both of these department’s concerns.
