People Sensing Modules and Applications

A lot is happening in your stores. Since store team members cannot be everywhere all the time, staying abreast of it all is nearly impossible. That is where Indyme’s people sensing modules come in. These devices enable immediate team notification when a person enters a monitored store area during certain hours or conditions (such as store open vs. closed).

People presence  notification messages can route to virtually any type of communication devices used by retail stores

Indyme’s people sensing solutions combine passive infrared (PIR) sensors with wireless connectivity technology, alarm processing rules, and flexible message routing to automatically notify the right team member(s) when a person is detected under specified conditions. This added awareness can contribute to increased customer service, productivity, loss prevention, and safety. The range of potential applications is numerous here are a few examples:

Late night checkout
It is common for checkers in 24-hour stores to assist with stocking and other duties during the slow early morning hours. Immediate notification that a customer is approaching the POS lane helps ensure prompt responsiveness to customer needs while balancing productivity of a lean staff.

Late night entry
Detects and notifies (often using overhead speakers or 2-way radios) when someone enters the store during those early morning slow hours. This application is achieved using a Door Open Sensing method.

Building high margin sales
Discreet sales associate notification when a customer enters a low-traffic, high-margin merchandise area helps ensure timely service response that increases conversions and builds tickets.

Loss prevention and safety
Area activity awareness supports loss prevention efforts and helps maintain store safety. Possible events of interest include:

  • Back room or office activity at unexpected times
  • Activity behind a service counter during unstaffed hours
  • Activity in an area known for high shrink rates
  • Activity in restriced sales areas (such as alcohol after sales hours)

Indyme selects people sensing devices and supporting software configurations to best meet each application. The devices shown here are some of the sensors available in Indyme’s solutions library; many other sensors can also be integrated as needed to solve new challenges.
